Programa SUR was created in 2009 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship in order to promote Argentine literature throughout the world by offering grants to cover the translation into foreign languages of Argentine authors’ works.
This programme has become an unprecedented success for the policy promoting Argentine culture and publishers abroad. In fact, in quantitative terms, Programa SUR has become the largest translation support programme in the American continent, with an average of 135 works per year.
So far, 1.472 translation applications have been approved in 51 countries and 49 languages. 10 works have already been translated into Vietnamese.
